Review: Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs

( Mercy Thompson #3 )

blurb:

'I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator...'

Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape - but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it's up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy's loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can't decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her...

There might be some spoilers so consider if you really wanna read this.

I think this one really is the best out of 3.
However.. I'm getting tired of the event pattern.. For most of the book there's nothing happening, then nearing the end there's this big great event that explains everything and usually there are some big revelations and of course somebody gets hurt. Usually Mercy. Then there's a lull again, and by the ending of the book there's one more big event.

What I hate, is how cold Mercy looks.
Sure she has feelings and blah blah. But I don't feel it. If she gets hurts, it's like nothing. Physically or emotionally, I just don't believe her.
It's like someone retelling her story to me, without emotions and the like. I'd like to be able to feel what she's feeling, to truly believe that she's 'real'.
It's almost like reading a history book. Cold facts.
'She went there because we needed to find that thing. That thing wasn't there, we went home.'
Maybe I'm not making any sense, but I'm just sharing my thoughts about this, so no hate mail please.
I understand it's hard to build a world with so many supernaturals in it, so much action and still keep the emotions in it. But it's possible, Kate Daniels is the best example.
There are too many things I must assume, which I rather read about. Feel more connected to characters.

So yeah.. not super excited about this, but I need to read the next book. I 'heard' it get's better.

We'll see I guess :)

Peace,
A.
